Nearly fifty Michigan libraries and its state humanities council are receiving a collection of books, films and other resources about Muslims in the United States and around the world.
The Muslim Journeys Bookshelf collection was developed by the National Endowment for the Humanities and American Library Association. Each library will receive 25 books, three films and a year of access to Oxford Islamic Studies Online.
Officials say the program aims to introduce the broader U.S. public to the “complex history and culture of Muslims” through “trustworthy and accessible resources.”
The collection has been awarded to 842 libraries and institutions nationwide. https://creepingsharia.wordpress.com/2013/01/15/taxpayers-stock-michigan-libraries-with-muslim-books-and-videos/

Tucked inside a massive spending bill intended to help victims of Hurricane Sandy but loaded with pork projects is $150 million for President Barack Obama’s ambitious plan to zone the oceans.
If approved by the House today, the money will go to a regional ocean partnership to help begin implementation of Obama’s highly controversial National Ocean Policy.
Human Events reported last year that the plan allows for Washington bureaucrats to take command of the oceans – and with it, control over the nation’s energy and fisheries in what lawmakers described as the ultimate power grab.
“This one to me could be the sleeping power grab that Americans will wake up to one day and wonder what the heck hit them,” Flores told Human Events.
The effects of Obama’s far-reaching policy would be felt by numerous industries including wind farms and other renewable energy undertakings, ports, shipping vessels, and other marine commerce, and upstream it would also affect mining, timber, even farming.
It will impact consumers directly through rules addressing recreational uses such as fishing and boating, and restricting the multiple use development of the ocean’s resources would also increase the cost of fuel and food. http://www.humanevents.com/2013/01/15/breaking-150m-to-zone-ocean-tucked-inside-sandy-aid-bill/

Following news that the White House extended the February 15th deadline for states to adopt health care exchanges for a second time, this time indefinitely, FreedomWorks’ Vice President of Health Care Policy Dean Clancy commented:
“The decision to postpone the Governors’ exchange deadlines is a silent defeat for the White House. We knew we were winning the fight against government-run health care when 27 states -more than half- refused to adopt a federal exchange. Today’s annoucement only confirms that Health and Human Services will not be able to meet the February 15th deadline. The wheels are coming off the bus, and the Administration is getting desperate. FreedomWorks is emboldened by this silent admission of defeat, and we plan to redouble our efforts to block the ObamaCare exchanges and to pressure Congress to reconsider this misguided, unconstitutional law.” http://www.freedomworks.org/press-releases/governors-reject-health-care-exchanges-white-house

Attorney General Eric Holder and his Department of Justice have asked a federal court to indefinitely delay a lawsuit brought by watchdog group Judicial Watch. The lawsuit seeks the enforcement of open records requests relating to Operation Fast and Furious, as required by law.
Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton said that Holder’s and Obama’s desire to continually hide these Fast and Furious documents is “ironic” now that they’re so gung-ho on gun control. “It is beyond ironic that the Obama administration has initiated an anti-gun violence push as it seeking to keep secret key documents about its very own Fast and Furious gun walking scandal,” Fitton said in a statement. “Getting beyond the Obama administration’s smokescreen, this lawsuit is about a very simple principle: the public’s right to know the full truth about an egregious political scandal that led to the death of at least one American and countless others in Mexico. http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Government/2013/01/17/Holder-begs-court-to-indefinitely-delay-group-s-lawsuit-fighting-for-release-of-Obama-s-executive-privilege-Fast-and-Furious-documents

During Barack Obama’s first term as president of the United States, the debt of the federal government increased by $5.8 trillion, which exceeds the combined debt accumulated under all presidents from George Washington through Bill Clinton.

President Barack Obama faces manifold threats and challenges, foreign and domestic, as he begins his second term in office.

The terrorist attack on a natural gas facility in Algeria last week that left dozens of people dead underscores the continuing danger posed to American citizens and American interests by affiliates of the al Qaeda terrorist network.

Although Obama authorized the daring May 2011 raid on the terrorist compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan, that resulted in the killing of al Qaeda’s leader Osama bin Laden by U.S. Navy SEALs, al Qaeda “franchises” such as Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb, Ansar al-Shariah, and others remain undefeated and retain the ability to inflict deadly harm against Americans—as happened in the Sept. 11, 2012, attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya, that left four Americans dead including the U.S. ambassador.

The number of Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuits filed against the federal government has increased dramatically under the Obama administration, according to a December study by the Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse (TRAC).

A comparison between the last two years of President George W. Bush’s second term and the last two years of President Barack Obama’s first term shows FOIA lawsuits jumped by 28 percent, TRAC reports.

FOIA lawsuits are filed to challenge denials of records requests or the use of exemptions of information by federal agencies.

Professional golfer Phil Mickelson told reporters Sunday that he is considering “drastic changes” in response to state and federal income tax hikes — including possibly leaving the United States.

The “legacy thing” may be harder than Barack Obama imagines. Beginning his second term, Obama has a focused, though unstated, agenda: to achieve presidential greatness in the eyes of historians and Americans. In this, he will almost certainly fail. He is already a historic president as the first African American to be elected, but there is a chasm between being historic and being great.

Presidents are ultimately judged not by their total record, or by their ability to enact their agendas, or by their popularity. They are judged by whether they get a few very big decisions right or wrong. Lyndon Johnson is mostly remembered for failure in Vietnam; it overshadows the passage of two landmark civil rights bills and approval of Medicare and Medicaid. Richard Nixon is not celebrated for creating the Environmental Protection Agency, expanding food stamps or opening talks with China; Watergate dwarfs all.

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — While President Obama is calling for further restrictions on access to guns, Oklahoma lawmakers are pushing in the other direction, introducing dozens of bills that would make it easier for people to carry firearms and to carry them into government meetings, state parks and even public schools.
More than two dozen bills were filed in the Senate to expand gun rights before Thursday's bill filing deadline, and nearly that many were prepared in the House. The 2013 session opens Feb. 4.
"Clearly in Oklahoma we are strong supporters of gun rights and gun ownership rights, and I think you're going to see a lot of legislation protecting that, whether it's my bill or other bills that are out there," said Sen. Patrick Anderson, R-Enid.
